The pieces lay before me. The blue plastic queen, the matte black king, the flat random checker pieces substituting for the pawns. We were playing chess, and I just made the first move, sending my first pawn into a sea of convolution. My mind dims as I blink my eyes. I am shifted back to the soft, cool covers of our bed.
